fun in the sun

Last weekend we joined a whole mess of family for a beach weekend in Galveston. We stayed in a palatial beach house and had a pretty stretch of sand to ourselves. Even the weather cooperated.

Here’s an assortment of us touring a sandcastle competition, not quite squeezing close enough to get everyone in the picture:

Uncle Mike—my dad’s brother—and his lovely wife Eve made the whole thing happen, and all the kids, spouses, and grandkids from our two families (14 in all) were there. To the best of my memory, it’s the first time we’ve all gotten together outside a wedding or a funeral—even holidays don’t draw this kind of attendance. I hope we do it again.
